LINE UP: SNO (BANANA HILL, REFORM RADIO) + ATIKÉ + CHANDÉ (MCR LIVE) + LIVE VISUALS BY MOLLY COOMBE
Heliocentrism is the concept that the Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun. Here at Helio-centric, our world revolves around music and visuals. We are launching a new series of events, dedicated to showcasing the resurgence of Jazz in dance music and in its intersections with funk, soul, boogie, house, broken beat and other futurisms. Merged with an immersive visual voyage into space. Join us as we dance into the sun!
SNO aka Selina Nongaliphe Oliphant grew up in the township of Bophelong in the Vaal, South Africa. SNO’s uncle was the finest collector of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Afrobeat and Disco. “He suffocated me with tune after tune for years. When he sold his collection, I felt loss that I still haven’t felt to date.”
A well known head on the music scene for years, once SNO managed to get a proper turntable at home in 2015, she started collecting the very records her uncle sold, and more, as she has never stopped learning about music.
SNO’s presence on the Manchester DJ scene has been sudden and explosive. This is due in no small part to the diversity and depth of her record bag. Not one to be pinned to a genre, her love of hip hop and bass styles frequently co-exist amongst the finest Afrobeat, Jazz and rare groove selections.
ATike is the co-founder and resident of club night Me Gusta; an inclusive world music night that incorporates live and club elements.
Having cut his teeth playing 10 hour sets in the basements of Fallowfield, Chandé has gone on to prove himself across Manchester’s beloved clubs and parties to more recently landing slots amongst esteemed lineups at Love For The Streets party at Hidden and Electric Picnic festival. All of which can be taken as endorsement for his love for deep digs across genres and scenes around the world, be it South African Kwaito House, Boogie from Brazil, Arabic Funk, Detroit Electro and your odd Noughties classic.
