THE NIGHT & DAY SHOWCASE
GRYDCKS & MTTRW – just a band making music together in various guises since 1998, the duo of vwls mix merge artful post-rock and beat-centric electronica with an experimental pop sensibility. Or something. Live performances involve band-oriented instrumentation (guitar, bass, drums, vocals) with two Maschines and other electronic toys that are both sequenced and played live.
Some 20-something year old boys from Manchester, we started a band because we’re studying music and our parents needed evidence of our degrees being useful because they’re not convinced. Our sound would make you think we all wear bucket hats but we don’t (this is key) instead we look like poster boys for pop boutique but luckily NO ONE ever shops there so keep this a secret please.
Joe writes all the songs and Jesus, Matt and Jebose are there too. Joe isn’t sure why they’re there but the others do provide moral support and sometimes get the audience to clap when Joe can’t quite manage it (despite Joe having grown two extra arms for the purpose of playing guitar and clapping simultaneously).
Our sound is inspired by bands like The Strokes, The Killers and Biffy Clyro but because we play in Manchester there’s a point between the PA and the audience’s ears where the songs all transform into Wonderwall. We really like rock from the 50s to the 70s (more than is acceptable for millennial meme-lovers) so our songs actually have a nice sprinkle of nostalgia. Or at least that’s what Matt’s dad says.
An 80s musician from 1995, Zac Curran combines the twinkle of a twelve-string with huge 80s synths and crushing drums – bringing the sound of the decade of excess to today’s music lovers.
