What stage times do bands play at Night&Day?
Well it varies. Doors are generally either 7.30 or 8.00pm with the first act on at 8.30 or 9.00pm. Headliners usually hit the stage somewhere from 10.00 to 11.00pm. This depends on the artiste's request, the number of bands on the bill, whether it's a weekend show etc. Feel free to phone the venue to check on the stage times for individual shows on 0161 236 4597.

Can I hire Night & Day for my own event?
You certainly can, though with several provisos. i.e. Whether the date is free, what kind of show you want to put on etc.. We of course like events that will improve the overall programme of events in any given month. We are happy to hire out the venue any night of the week though Friday and Saturday hire outs have to commence after the in-house programme on those nights. Get in touch for further info / costings via the contacts page here.

How do I get a show for my band at Night & Day?
First off get some of your music ideally by sending an email with a link to a myspace/website.You can send CDs but he will only use the link on the CD to listen online. All the details you need are on the Contact section of the website but make sure you include your contact details – a phone number and email address is fine.

How long will it take to get a show at Night & Day?
We get a huge amount of music sent in, far more than we can possibly book. It takes a while to listen to it all and then various factors come into play when filling the diary – these may affect the time it takes to get a show. These factors include whether we enjoy what you do, your location, fanbase etc… So simply put it could be any amount of time. Night & Day does generally book 2 to 3 months is advance so bear this in mind when you are scheduling shows.

Once I have secured a show at N&D, what gear do I need to bring?
We have a nice big PA, monitors, mics, stands and a lovely deep stage. Bands need to bring their instruments, backline amps and drums. More often than not a drum kit share will be needed so apart from the band bringing the basic kit all other acts will need to bring kick peddle, snare and cymbals. When unsigned acts are supporting touring bands more often that not they will need to bring a separate drum kit to the headline act. We do not have any amps or instruments here for loan or hire. A full venue and spec is in the spec section on the site.

How does the flyer deal work?
For unsigned acts the most common deal is the flyer deal. It works like this: Your band produce as many flyers as they require. These are to be given away by you to your fan base and they pay the flyer cover price on the door (this price varies). After we have counted all the flyers that have come through the door on the night you will receive £1.00 per flyer after 25 have been collected. i.e 24 flyers means nothing but 25 flyers = £25, 30 flyers = £30 etc. Bringing this minimum number to your show helps cover the cost of the sound engineer, cashier, security staff, promoter, PPL / PRS, insurance etc. Of course we look very kindly on acts that do well but somewhat unkindly on acts that can’t rustle 25 people up between them. Any revenue will not be paid to the band on the night it can be collected from the venue for up to one month following the gig during office hours (11am till 7pm Monday to Friday). Failure to collect within this time scale will result in us retaining the money and spending it on dancing girls.

How soon can I play at other venues either side of a show at Night & Day
Most promoters in Manchester operate what is widely known as the ‘21 Day Rule’. This means that you should not play at any venue in the Greater Manchester area within 21 days either side of your show. Sticking to this rule keeps your shows fresh for your fanbase and makes each show seem more like an event, overplaying obviously has the reverse effect. Remember all the promoters and venues talk to each other.

How much notice do I need to give when I want to cancel a show booked?
When cancelling a show we expect at the very least 14 days notice and a realistic reason. For example here are a few actual excuses given that count as invalid in our book: "My amp is broken and I'm fussy so can't use any of the other act’s amps", "We can't play as the Bass player is prone to mood swings" and “I forgot I was going on holiday”. Oh, boy. Failure to give the venue just reason in good time will result in one very pissed off promoter and you being barred, bad mouthed and inked into the venue shit list. Sorry if this sounds harsh but it’s pretty annoying.

Can we bring our own sound engineer to do our sound?
Sure, we have three fully trained and attentive engineers called Ivan, Cat and Dan. They are really nice people and will either do a stand up job of your sound or cheerfully facilitate your engineer.

So where is Night & Day?
Night & Day is 3 blocks up Oldham St on the right if coming from Piccadilly Gardens. You will find us opposite the excellent Piccadilly Records and right next door to the equally magnificent Magma books. Oldham St is a one way street going towards Piccadilly Gardens so you will have to a approach it via Lever St which is the next street along. Our address, a map and link to a handy route finder website that will guide you here is on the contact page of the N&D site.

What’s the parking and loading like?
Terrible. The powers that be have seen fit to double yellow line every road in sight and those street wardens we see a lot of can be pretty gung-ho, they are more than likely on a ticketing incentive scheme. What used to be single yellow lines at the rear of N&D (Spear St) are now double yellow ones which is pretty annoying for bands loading in and out practically every day of the year. However there are still some single yellow lines on Stevenson Square which connects Oldham St with Lever St to the left of N&D. The best bet is to load in and out with someone on the watch and during showtimes park either on the single yellows on Stevenson Square or in one of the nearby car parks (on Tibb St which is parallel to Oldham St or behind the Band on the Wall venue on Swan St which runs across the top of Oldham St, the opposite end to Piccadilly Gardens). Phew, get all that?

How old do I have to be to get into Night & Day and will I need ID?
As we have a liquor license we can only legally let in over 18’s and yes, you will need ID if we think you look young and care-free. We will accept passports and University photo IDs. College ID’s or anything without your photo won’t be accepted here. ID must have your date of birth on it as it's pretty pointless otherwise. If in doubt bring some along and bask safe in the knowledge that you look youthful and sprightly (your declining years will be with you sooner than you think).

What time does Night & Day stay open till?
Monday to Saturday we are open from 10am till 2am. We don’t always open on Sundays, when we do the opening time may vary but our curfew is 10.30pm.

Do covers / tribute bands play at Night & Day?
No. That’s for other people to do. Night & Day is all about bands playing original material. Please don’t phone if your band name is pre-fixed with ‘The Counterfeit’ or is called something on the lines of ‘Mock Party’. Although my personal favourite is ‘The Pretenders’ tribute band called ‘The Pretenders’ and I was once tempted to book a Frank Sinatra act that covered ACDC -'My Way To Hell' apparently.
